Accurate people counting, even at busy entrances

The 3D SCOPE II LC is a people counting camera that uses HDR depth sensing and shape recognition to understand people as three-dimensional forms, not patches of color. It delivers accurate foot traffic data even at busy entrances, from single doors to wide passageways.

Multi-sensor fusion

And if the entrance is wider than that

Up to 10 units on the same network are fused into one counting area across the opening. No separate processing box, no second platform, one count for the entire entrance.

Units are spaced so their covered areas overlap by at least 3.3 ft (1 m), which is what lets a person be handed from one counter to the next without being counted twice or dropped.

3D stereoscopic sensing

How it recognizes a person

Two lenses provide 3D depth information. The sensor uses shape, perceived height, position and movement to recognize and track people.

Two-lens ceiling sensor observing a person and a shape on the floor Two sight lines meet at a person's head and two continue to a floor-level shape. The sensor recognizes the person's three-dimensional form using shape, perceived height, position and movement. A flat floor-level shape is not a three-dimensional person. CEILING TWO LENSES FLOOR 3D person COUNTED Floor level NOT A 3D PERSON IGNORED

Recognizes people in 3D

The sensor looks for a head above the shoulders and considers perceived height, position and movement. Perceived height may vary slightly across the field of view. A moving shadow stays on the floor without the same 3D form.

Works in the light you have

Perceived height and 3D shape help across changing light. HDR sensing supports bright daylight to dim spaces, down to 3 lux (6 lux recommended).

Staff filtering

Separate staff traffic from customer traffic

Your staff crossing the door all day can inflate your customer foot traffic. Staff Filtering keeps them out of the customer count without trying to recognize them by sight. Employees carry a light rechargeable tag. When a tagged person crosses the line, the movement goes to a separate total, so you end up with two clean sets of numbers: customers, and staff.

Optional add-on, sold separately.

Real-time plan

How many people are inside right now

Entries and exits are one question. How full the room is at this moment is a different one, and it is the one that matters for capacity limits, queue staffing and safety rules.

On the Real-Time plan the counts become a live occupancy figure you can watch, alert on, or push to a display at the door.

Privacy

What actually leaves the sensor

3D SCOPE II LC uses video locally to detect human shapes. It does not identify people, and no video or identifiable information is transmitted to T.M.A.S. People are classified only as Adult or Child, and only from height and shape.

Where the 3D SCOPE II LC fits, and where it doesn't

It reads the whole doorway in depth from the ceiling, so the fit depends on the shape of the entrance and on whether a cable can reach it.

A good fit for

  • Medium to heavy traffic, especially when people cross side by side

  • Wide entrances, with coverage up to 19.7 ft wide per unit

  • Automated and revolving doors, elevators, corridors, large passageways

  • A ceiling between 6.6 and 13.1 ft, or up to 19.7 ft with the 3D SCOPE II HC

Not the right choice for

  • Low to medium traffic through one narrow door, single file

  • Outdoor installation exposed to sun and weather

  • Locations where running a cable is the obstacle, on cost or on approvals

Common questions about 3D SCOPE II LC People Counter

How does a 3D people counter work?

It mounts on the ceiling above an entrance and measures depth instead of reading an image. Two lenses set a fixed distance apart give a height for every point on the floor below, so a person reads as a shape rising off the ground while a shadow stays at zero. That is how the 3D SCOPE II LC separates people crossing side by side and gives each one a direction of travel.

How accurate is a 3D people counter?

The 3D SCOPE II LC counts with up to 99% accuracy. Its stereoscopic camera and AI-based algorithms can count multiple people at once, including people walking side by side or in groups. It distinguishes adults from children, filters out U-turns to avoid false counts, and counts people in wheelchairs. Shopping carts are detected separately and excluded from visitor counts.

How much does a people counter cost?

The 3D SCOPE II LC is $1,149.95 USD with free shipping in the US and Canada. One sensor covers one entrance. That price includes the PoE injector and patch cord, both mounting covers, remote calibration, free onboarding, a 2-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. A T.M.A.S. plan is billed separately. Choose a 1-year prepaid Standard, Retail or Real-Time plan and you get $150 off each 3D SCOPE II LC.

How many people counters does one entrance need?

One 3D SCOPE II LC covers an entrance up to 19.7 ft (6 m) wide, depending on installation height and configuration. For ceilings above 13.1 ft, the 3D SCOPE II HC, available on request, covers up to 26.2 ft (8 m). It suits single doors, automatic sliding doors and wider entrances. See the SMS Storetraffic coverage charts to find the coverage that fits your installation.

Does a people counter record video or identify people?

No image leaves the sensor. The 3D SCOPE II LC reads depth to find human shapes, classifies them only as Adult or Child from height, and sends counts and status to T.M.A.S. over an encrypted HTTPS connection. No faces, no age, no gender, nothing that could match a person between two visits. With no personal data collected, meeting privacy requirements is simpler.
